Hand Dance is on the scene with young people in and around Washington, DC area. DC Hand Dance, a swing style partner dance originating in Washington, DC, dates back to the 1960s but the hip hop generation has turned this dance into its own with a little of the old and a lot of the new. The young dancers are movin' and groovin' in the Nation's Capitol.
DC DANCIN' TEENS is a 60 minute weekly dance program hosted by Markus Smith and McKindria Letsinger, The show features young hand dancers from the ages of 10 to 19 years old. Like the teen television dance shows of yesteryear, DC DANCIN' TEENS will showcase the hand dance styling of the DC area young hand dancers dancing to the music of their generation, as well as the best in traditional hand dance music.
DC DANCIN' TEENS will also feature, in its segments, video profiles of the DC DANCIN' TEEN Regulars, interviews by Markus and McKindria with the regulars, special features and occasional guest appearances. Future shows will offer basic lessons in hand dance.
In no time, young people all over the world will be hand dancing! Host Markus Smith, at 25, is an amazingly accomplished and award winning hand dance competitor, choreographer and hand dance instructor. His Co-host Mckindria Letsinger, at 19, is also an award winning hand dance competitor. Together, Markus and McKindria won 1st Place in the "Strictly Hand Dance" category at the prestigious 2007 U.S. Open Swing Dance Championship in Anaheim, California. They were also awarded 1st Place in the Classic Hand Dance category at the 2005 Tri-State Connection Competition in Vienna VA, and 1st Place in the Showdown Category of the 2006 Texas Regional Competition. Markus is also part of the dynamic hand dance team of "Markus and Deonna" featured on Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance" and BET's "106 and Park" program.
